Guided by its corporate philosophy of "Kyosei," Canon has been carrying out activities to conserve the earth's environment, including green procurement. Our progressive efforts are based on the belief that green procurement is an important task of a corporation trying to fulfill its environmental responsibilities. To promote green procurement, Canon issued the "Global Canon Green Procurement Standards" and "Global Canon Green Procurement Guidebook" as early as in 1997. Since this time, we have regularly reviewed and revised our green procurement standards to reflect trends in society as well as developments in related regulations. Most recently we made revisions to our controlled chemical substances, which were issued as Version 5.0 in February 2008.
Since March 2006, the Green Procurement Standards have been divided into the "Parts and Materials" edition and the "Accessory Materials Procurement for Sales Activities" edition. Each part sets forth the basic principles of green procurement, standards, and evaluation.
